Door County Bread Pudding

INGREDIENTS

1 cup cream-style small curd cottage cheese
1/2 cup dried tart cherries
1/4 cup sour cream
6 tbsp. sugar, divided
20 french bread slices, 1/4" thick
1 apple, cored and thinly sliced
1 cup milk
2 eggs, beaten
2 tbsp. butter

INSTRUCTIONS

    Combine cottage cheese, cherries, sour cream, and 3 tbsp. sugar; mix well. Layer half the bread slices in well-buttered 2 qt. casserole; spread with cheese mixture. Cover with apple slices; top with remaining bread slices. Combine milk, eggs, and 2 tbsp. sugar; mix well. Pour over bread slices, moistening entire surface. Dot with butter; sprinkle with remaining sugar. Bake at 350°F for 45 minutes or until golden brown.
