Banana Split Pie

INGREDIENTS

1 large banana, sliced
10 maraschino cherries, halved and drained
1 pie shell, 9", baked
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1 qt. vanilla ice cream, softened
1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate pieces
1 1/4 cup butter
1 cup 1 tbsp. powdered sugar, sifted, divided
3/4 cup half-and-half
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 cup heavy whipping cream, whipped
Additional maraschino cherries, drained, as needed
Additional banana slices, as needed

INSTRUCTIONS

    Place banana slices and cherry halves alternately in bottom of baked pastry shell. Sprinkle with walnuts. Spread ice cream over nut layer. Freeze several hours.

    In heavy saucepan, melt chocolate pieces and butter. Add powdered sugar and half-and-half. Cook until thick. Add vanilla. Cool. Pour over ice cream layer. Freeze 4 hours. Whip cream. Gradually add sugar. Continue whipping until stiff. Garnish pie with whipped cream, cherries and banana slices.
